The popularity of growing your own herbs is increasing all the time. It’s one of those gardening delights that you’ll get much pleasure in doing and the rewards are fantastic. There are so many good things to enjoy about growing your own herb garden that you’ll want to increase your productivity by planting more and more.

One major benefit of growing your own herbs is saving money. Fresh herbs can be ridiculously expensive, with a single small container of fresh herbs sometimes costing $3 to $5 in many supermarkets!

If you would like to make use of fresh herbs in your recipes, then growing your own from seed is the way to go. For less than 2 dollars you’ll get a large pack of seed and be able to grow lots of plants that will keep you in fresh herbs for a long time. If you’re already a home gardener, then you won’t need anything extra to grow your herbs. Even if you’re not, the cost of a few tools and some fertilizer will still save you money and you’ll only have to buy the tools once.

Your home garden is a great place to unwind and relieve stress, so growing herbs, like all forms of gardening, can help with this and have the added benefit of some beautiful aromatherapy.

Of course there’s the advantage that herbs can be grown in containers or in very small areas if your space is limited. Containers are a good choice if you need to move them around to assist their growth. Speaking of growth, herbs don’t require much maintenance and tend to be very hardy as well as prolific.

Herbs can be used as part of your landscape design, as well. Because of the fact that they are generally very attractive, they look perfectly at home in their own garden, tucked among flowers, or even used as ornamental plants along walkways, by porches or steps, or anywhere you need a bit of an accent.

They’re great at jazzing up bland dinners. If your family has been complaining that your cooking is becoming boring, try adding some fresh herbs to your food! Once your family has tried spaghetti made with fresh basil, they may never want the stuff in a jar again!

Herbs don’t only look and taste good, they’re also very good for your health! They contain a lot of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that are essential to a healthy diet.

If you should put your house up for sale in the future, your well cared for garden along with its mouth watering herb section will add value to your home. It can become a focal point to help in the successful sale of your property.

Very often the only way to taste the flavors of some exotic herbs is to grow your own. Your local grocery store is only likely to have the standard herbs at inflated prices and you won’t find some of the more unusual varieties. Sure you’ll find herbs like basil, mint or chives, but you won’t find fresh chervil, garlic chives or purple basil so easily.

You’re also going to become popular among your neighbors, friends and family when they discover your herb garden. You’ll get lots of requests for some of your delicious herbs for their cooking, this makes it easy for you to think of a gift when you need one, just give a fresh herb in a pot!
